With the news of her passing, Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) would like to acknowledge the legacy of Métis Elder Angie Crerar and the profound impact she had on our school division.

Angie dedicated more than 40 years of service to the Grande Prairie Friendship Centre, and many years as president of Métis Local 1990. In 2003, Angie received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Institute for the Advancement of Aboriginal Women. In 2005, she was awarded the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award for her efforts to help unhoused people over the age of 55, having founded the local Elders Caring Shelter. In 2012, Angie received the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, followed by the Government of Alberta’s Minister’s Seniors Service Award in 2015. In 2022, she helped lead Canada's Indigenous delegation to Rome to share her story as a Residential School Survivor with Pope Francis.

Over the years, Angie presented to students and staff across PWPSD and provided mentorship to the Indigenous Education Services team. Angie shared openly about her life, and always left participants with important lessons and an overwhelming feeling of love. One especially meaningful memory was when Angie gifted Clairmont Community School her personal Métis sash in recognition of the important work they were doing to celebrate and honour Indigenous peoples.

PWPSD is deeply grateful for the everlasting impact Angie has had on our school division, and send our condolences to her family.
